After Marine Life cyanotypes, inspired by my many trips to Newlyn, I started to capture plants, the more traditional subject matter, used as a record of their finds by the early plant hunters.
My cyanotypes were the opposite. Recording the wild plant life found on our farm growing under my feet. Teasels from the Riverbank to sunflowers in the fields, many represented by collaged images of several different species. Most of these were shown for the first time in an exhibition entitled, ‘Blue by Sue,’ held at Stwdio 3 in Cardigan and curated by the talented, Emily Marshall-Hasdell.
Always driven to challenge myself to produce new work, I returned to Newlyn School of Art in autumn of 2023 to participate in the new year long course, ‘The Figure’. The course brought together an exciting mix of students and tutors.
I reached a breakthrough in my work when we had the opportunity to capture a model outdoors roller blading in glorious sunshine in early March. The moving figure has continued to inspire my work.
The end of year show held at the Gallery in the Tremenheere Sculpture Park brought together three of us all originally from or based in the Midlands to follow this with an exhibition entitled, Restless Movement, which ran for the month of September 2024 in the Black and White Gallery at the iconic LTB building in Coventry, attracting a lot of interest from a wide range of fellow artists, many linked with the university and the building. In the video below you’ll see one of the young visitors to the gallery echoing the image with her own version of restless movement!

Looking ahead I am hoping to take part in another collaboration in the autumn of 2025. More details to follow once they have been confirmed.
This year I am continuing to work at capturing energy and movement in my figurative and abstract work. I also love my work as a Live Illustrator deriving most fun from being anonymous where I can be more mischievous and take greater risks without fear of offending.
